Biology of the Durhan
Durhan stand roughly 8 to 9 feet tall and has a huge claw like talons and large octopus like heads. Their skin tone is typically a light pink or grey with several blackish liver marks. When looking at pre-taint Durhan, their slender form was less scarred by the effects of Taint influences, and kept it's pinkish hue. During their modification by the Black Mantle Giver, otherwise called The Founder, they gained the typical grayish hue, and dark purplish bumps and liver spots indicative of Taint.
Durhan are typically in the current Convergence Age attached with their Armour which is made of a mix of Taint and mechanical parts, in addition to this many Durhan have biological modifications as well as cybernetic enhancements. Durhan are natural psychics, and can force their will onto others. There psychic nature is an innate part of the way new Durhan were originally birthed. On their home planet where Durhan evolved; the Durhan gave birth by inseminating other creatures with fertile enough physic minds with the seed of a new Durhan after they would break the mind of the creature they are trying to overpower. Attacking primarily the sub-race on their home planet known as the Traut, for the Durhan love the vicious internalized psychic maelstrom of the minds contained inside of the Traut. Durhan would kill the male Trauts, breaking the minds of the vicious killer Traut and birth new Durhan forms in their bodies; keeping the Traut race as herds on their home planet for breeding as well as sport. This would continue until the race was found by the Black Mantle Giver.
Defining Philosophy of Durhan; Durhast
The conceptualization of their subjection of other races to inseminate the minds of other races; particularly the Traut would lead to the defining philosophy shared by all Durhan across their entire history. Believing in the spiritual apex of pure distilled powerful form, and pure powerful mind, the Durhan would call this conceptualization "Durhast". This shapes much of how Durhan react to most other races; believing that if a race can not over power another, or that if one can not show ones power of mind or body over others; being purity while sympathy, empathy and other forms of care being signs of a psychic weakness in other races.
Current Birthing of a Durhan
Currently the Taint is a main genetic part of Durhan make-up and it is not innate and can infect others. The Durhan are the only known race to be able to supposedly ward off the full active effects of Taint; utilizing just the prowess of their minds to tame and chain it to their will. Durhan are also no longer born in their normal biological manner, and use similar technology to the Kurlik and other creatures that have been under the influence of Mantles or Progenitors; Vat technology. However Vat spawning a Durhan is far more costly and lengthy then a normal Vat spawned creature; as it needs active Taint as well as the same process that Durhan used to birth themselves as before; the mental breaking of the will of the creature they inseminate with their minds. As such only powerful Durhan Vat Priests, experts at forcing and chaining the Taints psychic energy and tying it into the organic matter of the live creatures they fed the Vat, inseminating the mind just as it begins to be devoured by the taint thus birthing a new Durhan.
History of the Durhan
Durhan had ruled on their home planet for thousands of years; sustaining what many would consider a simple life style during that time compared to most races. Durhan despite their hyper intelligence and psychic nature never built star-ships or attempted towards the spreading of their race into the dark of the stars despite the capacity to do so. The Durhan ruling philosophy of thought was that the only thing needed to master was the breaking of minds and victory in combat to show the prowess of the Durhan mind and body. This lead to the Durhan being entertained with just the combats fought between themselves or the breaking of the sub-races on their planets minds for insemination.
When found by The Founder in 4300 S.A. it was less the Black Mantle's philosophy of saving the other races by replacing their organics with metals, and instead the idea of being the Chosen Race; judge, juror, and executioner of all other races that would spark the imagination of the Durhan race. They would quickly join, allowing The Founder to make modifications as well as proving nearly mentally immune to the effects of taint that had been brought on the hosts of the Kurlik. The Durhan where given a place of power, and would subjugate the Kurlik into a slave race, using the technology given to them to advance their technology beyond anything that the Kurlik currently had. They would reformat the Crimson Empire; and declare what would be known as the Crimson Crusades; a brutal campaign of domination across the stars.
This would last until the race was defeated by the U.W.F. in the Crimson War and their allies, and slaves alike, the V.R. and Kurlik would abandon them. One blow after another the Durhan empire faced increasing issues; it was clear that by 55 G.A. that the Black Mantle had fully fallen to insanity; and the Durhan were in need of a new War Master. The Empire would kill off those few followers of the Founders Philosophy of Mechanis that had not already ran away knowing their fate. Following this, the Durhan growing despite enough for the victory that they always crave; allied themselves with the powerful Victor Raven 13, as well as the Taint replacing the Black Mantle's leadership. This would however lead to the race losing the war at the Battle at EchoLocation and having to sign the Valkyrie Accords.
The Durhan race still holds a wide swath of territory ruling as the Master Race in the Crimson Empire; masters of many minor races, taint, and biological enslaved monsters that they create, continuing a secret shadow war to avoid breaking the peace while still planning for their inevitable realignment to war; blood and death. The Durhan still believe fully that they are the Chosen Race, and new augmentations to their gene code during the years of peace have made their already horrific forms even more warlike and powerful then before.
