After the stalemate at the battle with the Enlightened Ones the Black Mantle had lost faith in the strength of the Kurlik race, and more importantly his dementia and insanity worsened as he craved more and more vengeance against the Kurlik people for past grievances during the Kurlik Mantle War during the Period of Beginnings that the Kurlik people no longer remembered. His constant revisions to their vat code to have them prove immune from the effects of the Taint also stunting their normal rugged physique. Additionally with their burst in population from his crazed manipulations made the need for the Kurlik not to rebel a necessity for his Crimson Empire to survive. It was at this time his fleets had found the unexplored space in an unknown quadrant. There the world of Weimeth was found and the Black Mantle fell madly in love with the race of aliens known as the Durhan and Traut. In them he saw a race that could control the Kurlik with their hugely powerful ability to control the minds of others. The vicious pair of sup species Durhan and Traut lived in symbiotic relationship where Durhan killed male Traut and bred with the female Traut as their psychotic violent pathology made the Durhan's own extremely powerful psychic powers even more deadly and had been their key to evolution of resistance. The Black Mantle struck a deal with the Durhan; who had gained sentience before but never felt the need for space, only the need to dominate one another. The Black Mantle promised them the role of being the new chosen race of his Crimson Empire, the masters of the Kurlik and Selvorais as well as the offer that the Durhan could not refuse; the goal of total domination of all other races, creeds and cultures to replace with their own.
